Kurukshetra, September 19

Coming down heavily on illegal colonies, the Town Planning Department yesterday demolished six under-construction houses and shops near Ram Nagar in the city. District Town Planner (DTP) Amrik Singh said the demolished houses and shops were constructed on an agricultural land and no prior permission had been taken from the authorities concerned for construction of the houses and shops.

The DTP said he was shocked to see to a number of illegal houses in the area and when he enquired from residents, they informed him that some of the houses had been constructing from the past two years.

An official of the department said illegal houses and shops could be regularised as it was a compoundable offence.

“It has become a common practice here, first to construct a house and then get it regularised by paying extra building fee. Due to this reason, most illegal constructions go unchecked,” said the official.
