Infrastructure firm UE Development India Ltd is planning to bid for the Rs 14,000-crore Chennai metro rail project and is also holding talks with various realty developers to expand its construction business. UEDI, which is part of Malaysia-based UEM Group, has already participated in the pre-bidding stages for the metro rail project. “We participated in the first meeting organised by the Chennai authorities for all potential bidders. We are currently studying the pre-qualification documents. We are also looking at the possibility of forming a joint venture for the project,”UEDI Country Manager Zainal Fitri Bapoo told PTI.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Chennai Metro Rail Project has been prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corp Ltd. The DPR envisages the creation of two initial corridors under the proposed Chennai Metro Rail Project totalling 45 kms. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 14,600 crore, including escalation, central taxes and interest during the period of construction. The next round of bidding for the metro project is scheduled in May and the company may bid for the project along with a JV partner, Bapoo said.
UEDI is also holding discussions with realty players across India and expand its construction business. “We have a tie up with Ansal API for one of their projects in Lucknow. We want to expand our construction business and talking to some of the largest real estate developers for the purpose,” Bapoo said. However, he declined to name the companies he is in discussions with for the contract work. UEDI has a Rs 150 crore contract for Ansal API’s “Sushant City” in Lucknow for developing infrastructure in the project. It is also executing a 127-km road construction project in Kerala for the state transport authority.
