With their unemployment rate escalating, Ireland authorities are now pinning hope on companies operating in the northern region. With an intention to catch the attention of potential investors, ambassador of Ireland to India Kenneth Thompson was in town on Monday. Addressing a business meet organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry on building investment partnership with Ireland, Thompson said, “India and Ireland are natural business partners, sharing strong similarities in history and culture. Indian people – mostly professors, doctors, nurses and IT professionals – account for the largest immigrant group in Ireland.”

He said, “We want to generate employment for our people and the entrepreneurs from the three states – Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh – are our target area.” Seeking investments mainly in pharmaceuticals, IT, tourism, real estate and textile sectors, he added, “We have opened gates for Indian companies to set up business in Ireland.”
