The growing real estate market is facing a manpower crunch today. As construction activity in India has achieved unimaginable proportions, the need for trained resources to handle the demands of the commercial, industrial and residential sectors has been felt.
The real estate industry has taken the initiative of training its own staff. Management institutes are being visited by the major property developers to recruit freshers for training and absorption in this specialized line of business.
Trammel Crow Meghraj has been on a massive recruitment drive to man its offices and projects in 10 offices across the country. It has drawn 1,050 trainees from the Birla Institute of Management in Delhi, the Indian Business Academy in Bangalore, Mumbai’s Rizvi and Chetna Institutes of Management, Pune’s Indira and Balaji Institutes of Management, amongst others.
Meanwhile, Hirco, the Hiranandani group’s new investment company is looking overseas for recruitment of management graduates to run their operations in India. With construction quality of global standards already initiated here, trained manpower with requisite skills is necessary.
Knight Frank’s chairman Pranay Vakil however, is of the opinion that fresh management graduates can be groomed to cater to the unique demands of this industry, rather than taking in ‘personnel’ from outside.
