The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) would take a number of projects to improve infrastructure facilities and develop construction projects in Greater Mumbai. This multi-facet project will utilize the fund of Rs. 2,444 crore. The authority also envisages accommodating airport slum rehabilitation project within the same resources.
MMRDA is a nodal agency which implements projects to develop infrastructure facilities in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The authority has proposed to build a new rail link between Bandra and Kurla to provide a direct link between the central and western railway corridors.
It has also set aside large chunks of amount to facilitate various infrastructure projects. It includes the whopping amount of Rs. 705.12 crore under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), Rs. 562.95 crore under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Projects (MUIP), Rs 300 crore under the Mumbai Rail Transport System (MRTS) and Rs 200 crore under the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to construct the flyovers.
MMRDA has so far earmarked Rs. 2,523.23 crore from different sources. The authority has taken a loan of Rs. 474.60 crore from the World Bank, Rs 810 crore by leasing its acquired land, Rs. 150 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rs 100 crore from the rehabilitation of slum dwellers at the Mumbai international airport.
