Rajasthan Govt. Announces New Property Tax

The Rajasthan Government has announced a new property tax for urban areas of the state. The tax will be charged on houses, unutilized land except agricultural land and developed areas in premises under the jurisdiction of all municipal councils and municipalities, as per the notification issued under Section 104 of the Rajasthan Municipality Act, 1959.

The residential plots spread over more than 300 square yards, flats measuring over 1,500 square feet and commercial plots over 1,00 square yards will come under the new tax net.

The tax will be evaluated on the basis of the district-level committee rate, taking into consideration the total land and the built up area. And, the tax will be evaluated every calendar year.

Hotels including budget hotels, one, two, and three star hotels, guest houses, and all central government properties utilized for commercial and public sector undertaking, corporations and boards will have to pay the new property tax.
