Property prices in Mohali are scaling new heights. On the second day of the auction of residential sites held by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, a one kanal seven marla plot fetched a whopping Rs 3.11 crore against its reserve price of Rs 2.3 crore.
As many as 11 residential sites in the township went under the hammer till the filing of this report late on Thursday evening. Apart from the plot that got GMADA Rs 3.11 crore, two corner plots measuring one kanal two marla each in the same sector were lapped up for Rs 2.76 crore and Rs 2.80 crore as against the reserve price of Rs 1.86 crore.
The reason that these plots went for such high prices could be that Mohali is all set to develop a state-of-the-art town centre in Sector 62, which is near Sector 69. Most of these plots were in the vicinity of the proposed town centre.
A one kanal plot in Sector 65 with a reserve price of Rs 1.63 crore was sold for Rs 2.80 crore and a similar plot in Sector 63 went for Rs 1.86 crore against its reserve price of Rs 1.48 crore.
Even smaller plots found takers aplenty as two 10-marla plots in Sector 69 went for Rs 1.22 crore and Rs 1.37 crore. The reserve price of the plots was Rs 77.85 lakh each. Two six-marla plots in Sector 68 were auctioned for Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60.88 lakh against a reserve price of Rs 48.24 lakh each.
As many as 13 commercial sites that went under the hammer were auctioned at handsome prices. On Tuesday, a shop-cum-office in Sector 69 fetched Rs 12.75 crore against a reserve price of Rs 4.75 crore.
“The auction has attracted a massive response setting a new benchmark in the township’s real estate market. The upcoming international airport, Knowledge City and the rapid development in Mohali is the reason for this growing interest,” said an official of the Punjab Urban Development Authority.
