According to a new survey, the number of women property buyers has increased by 20% of the total property transactions made in Ahmedabad in the last two years. Such a sudden rise has not come on hand but is resultant of exemption of registration fee on property for a woman property buyer.
The exemption is made effective from June 11, 2004. The data showing the precise figures of women property buyers before the norm came into force is not available. However, it is believed to be 5% as per what has been told by the property consultants and revenue officers.
Of total 2, 28,511, there were 51,230 women property buyers within the six months after the registration fee exemption came into force, says the data available with the office of the Superintendent of Stamps Duty and Inspector General Of Registration, Gujarat. There onwards, there has been a considerable increase in the range.
Giving a look to the number of transactions made by women property investors, they are noted to be 1, 07,199 out of total 5, 00,494 property transactions between January- December 2005.
There were 1.27 lakh women real estate buyers in the year 2006 thereby forming a large part of the total 6.25 lakh investors in property. Around 30% of the property buyers are women now, says an Ahmedabad based property developer.
The move of exempting registration fee on women property buyers, however, has caused a great loss of Rs 64.88 crore to the state government.
